Welcome to Introduction to Microcomputing and Web Design classes. I am pleased to be your teacher for 2023-2024 school year. I look forward to developing your computer skills and finding your career interest. Together, we’ll have a wonderful year!

I have over 35 years of employment within corporate American, higher education, and public high schools. My passion is to teach students how to use business software and discover career interest. I have worked with teenagers to matured adults for many years in colleges and public schools. My goal is to bring out your best computer skills.

Each day class will begin with a Do Now assignment, followed by a demonstration lesson for students to work independently. There are individual and group projects that each student will present to their peers. Student can have an opportunity to take a role as an Office Assistant in the classroom. In this role student will gain experience with supporting the teacher and assisting with the lesson. This experience will help reinforce your learning skills.

There are expect that each student is required to follow in school and the classroom. There are unwritten rules, such as, not to be rude or disrespectful to anyone in the class. Then there are rules that need to be written to remind everyone that profanity, cellphone use, eating, and drinking are not allowed in my classroom. You will be given a warranting then points will be deducted from your participation grade. If the behavior continues, administration will assist in the matter.

CLASSES

In the Web Design class, students will explore new terminology and experience how to build web pages. Your creative journey will begin with UACHS access to a comprehensive software. You will learn how to structure and style website and write in HTML and CSS code. We will explore job titles, employment requirements, and salary ranges to help you make decisions about your future. Using the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS.gov) we will discuss employment trends for this industry.

In the Microcomputing class, students will learn how to use Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel Spreadsheet, PowerPoint, Publisher) and maintain current skills using Google Suits. As students become more familiar and confident with navigating the tools, their employment outlook get better. Employers are seeking candidates to have computer skills and ready to learn their internal software.

After completing either of these two classes, students can take an examination to display their confidents. Google offers some free certifications, such as, Google Ads Display Certificate, Google Analytics Individual Certification, and Google Digital Marketing Certification. Microsoft offer the MOS Certification (Microsoft Office Specialist) in either Word, Excel Spreadsheet, or PowerPoint. In addition, it is important that students practice typing to increase their speed and accuracy. I encourage you to have a good nail length to maximize your class time.

Early this year, one of my former students became a PowerPoint State Champion for placing 2^nd in New Jersey Spring Competition. You can achieve this too. My second goal is to equip you with tools to leave high school as a stronger candidate for employment and/or college.
