About Me:
I am Mrs. Nieves. I teach Intro to Microcomputing, AP Computer Science Principles, and Web Page Design.
My teaching philosophy:
My mission is to make a long-lasting positive impact in my students lives and ensuring they achieve academic success. My favorite part of teaching is helping and inspiring my students to learn new things, discover their potential, and believe in themselves.
My academic background and experience:
I have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (NJCU) and a Master's degree in Information Systems (Stevens Institute of Technology).
About My Classes:
Intro to Microcomputing (Periods 1, 2, 3, and 8):
- Students will be introduced to core productivity applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and databases. Students will learn how to create professional documents and acquire life and career skills that will help them beyond their high school years.
AP Computer Science Principles (Period 5):
- Foundational concepts of computer science
- The impact computing and technology have on our society
- Focus on creative problem solving and real-world applications
Web Page Design (Period 7):
- Students will build their own web pages and create their own live homepages to serve as portfolios of their creations.
Class Expectations:
- Follow dress code (uniform is mandatory)
- Be on time and prepared
- Bring your Chromebook charged everyday
- Enter the classroom quietly and take your assigned seat
- Have your homework on your desk ready to be checked
- Talking, disrupting, walking, eating or drinking are not permitted
- Offensive languages, profanity, and teasing are not allowed
- Be kind and respectful to yourself, your classmates, your classroom, your teachers, and your school
- Go to the bathroom before or after class except for emergency
- No food allowed in the classroom
- Cellphones/electronic devices must be put away (will be taken to the office)
- Any type of bullying is not allowed
- Pay attention, participate, and ask questions
- Turn in assignments on time. If not possible, message/email teacher before deadline
Grading Policy:
- Preparation, Participation, and Conduct = 30% of grade
- Tests and Projects 30%
- Quizzes = 20%
- Homework = 20%Class Work:
- Daily class work will be checked. To get full credit, students are expected to do the work. Students earn participation points for trying problems and working as a group.
Homework:
- Homework is checked every day in the beginning of the class. No homework = zero (0).
- No exceptions and no make-ups
