Mr. Gurbisz - English IV and English IV Dual Credit
Greetings!
My name is John Gurbisz, and I am the English teacher and Department Lead at UACHS. I have over 10 years of teaching experience, largely at UACHS. This is my 7th year as a full-time English teacher here at UA, after spending 3 years at the school in the NJCU teacher internship program (now TAP). This is my fifth year as the English Department Lead. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Rowan University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a Master of Arts in Secondary Education from NJCU. Additionally, I spent the 2018/2019 school year teaching English in Teplice, Czech Republic through the Fulbright Scholarship Program.
This year, I have 5 sections of English IV and 1 section of English IV Dual Credit, a course where students have the opportunity to earn 3 college credits towards any base-level, ENGL100 English Composition course. I am looking forward to meeting new faces as well as engaging with students I have already taught in the 9th grade.
For my class, all assignments will be clearly listed (with due dates) on the whiteboard in my classroom. I use Schoology as my sole means of communication and interaction with my students, and all major projects, essays, and writing assignments will be uploaded through that platform. Students should also get used to turning in major assignments through TurnItIn.com. My syllabus for both courses is attached on this website, and reflects newly-approved curricula as of Fall 2025.
As a parent or guardian, please make sure you take the opportunity to log into PowerSchool regularly to check grades. This is the best way for you to stay engaged in your child's learning and progress in my class.
If you would like to set up a phone call or a meeting, I am generally available from 9:00-9:50 by appointment only. Additionally, you can always reach out through [email protected].
Best,
Mr. Gurbisz
