English I
Mr. John Gurbisz
Identity Project: Photo Collage/Paragraph
Due: September 10, 2019 (at the start of class)
In order to show me a little bit more about yourself, as well as to gauge your writing abilities entering English I, I would like you to create a photo collage that highlights some things about yourself.
In addition to the physical collage, I would like a well-written paragraph (7-10 sentences) that explains to me, in detail, why you chose to include JUST ONE of the images on your collage. Ask yourself: why is this item important to you? Why did you choose to highlight it the most? What role does this play in your life? Be as specific as you can, and remember to SHOW not TELL.
The collage can be done on regular, standard-issue computer printer paper or construction paper, but should not be on a large poster board. The aim of this collage is to show me things that are important to you and your life, and for you to be able to effectively explain why.
Some things you can include on your collage include (but are not limited to):
Personal photos (you with friends and family members)
Quotes that speak to you
Favorite music artists
Favorite books, movies, television show
Favorite foods or activities
Favorite school subject
How you like to spend your free time
This will count as your first major grade for English I (as a project grade). I will primarily be grading you on the effort you put into both your collage and your paragraph. You can earn a total of 100 points for this project, with 50 points possible for the photo collage and 50 points possible for the accompanying paragraph.
I will not take points off on your writing ability (grammar, usage, syntax) for THIS ASSIGNMENT, as I have not taught you any grammar or writing skills just yet. Instead, I’m looking to see if you’ve answered the questions I’ve given you effectively, and that you put effort into your photo collage.
