September 2023

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our 2023–2024 school year. I am looking forward to working with you all.

Physics consists of the study of matter, energy, and the interaction between them. It is concerned with the physical properties of nature, as opposed to the study of the characteristics of living things, which is covered in Life Sciences.

This courses is designed to provide the students with a comprehensive understanding of specific scientific topics, and to prepare students with the computational and verbal problem-solving skills that are necessary to succeed in high school science and beyond.

I will strive to challenge students to achieve their potential, to pass on my passion for the subject matter, and to get to know student’s interests outside of the classroom. I believe that it is important to maintain open lines of communication with parents/guardians in order to ensure the success of all students in the classroom.

This is a full year course that meets regularly. The structure of our class is a mixture of lecture, discussion, demonstration, small group activities, and online virtual laboratory investigations. My goal is for students to gain an understanding of the natural world through a variety of learning activities. Participation in class activities and completion of homework assignments is expected. Regardless of whether or not a formal homework assignment is given, it is highly recommended that students review their notes and study every night.

I will be in touch with parents/guardians by telephone, progress reports, report cards, and meetings during parent-teacher nights. Should you need to reach me please do not hesitate to call the school and leave a message for me at (201) 200-3200, or at [email protected].

I look forward to a wonderfully productive year.

Sincerely,
Mr. Dorman
