Questions and Answers about the Dual Credit English Composition Class You Are Taking

What does DC/EC mean? Why is this class called DC/EC?

DC/EC means Dual Credit English Composition class. This English IV class is dedicated to helping students prepare for college. While taking it, you can get college credit for English 101 (the introductory English course at college).

The way to get college credit is through passing this English class throughout the whole year because the class you are taking is a dual credit course. This means you receive credit for both college and high school by taking this course. It is offered at your high school, but it is the curriculum of New Jersey City University’s English 101 class as well. You have two instructors for this course, both a high school and college teacher. If you pass the course, you will receive credit for English 101.

Are you a student at NJCU while taking this course

Because your high school is paying for you take this course throughout the whole year, you are technically a student at NJCU. This means you will receive a student ID later in the semester that you can use for the library and other services at NJCU. Since you are taking one class, you are not a full-time student, but you are a student and can use certain services that we will discuss.

What should I do if I get a letter from NJCU about tuition?

UACHS is paying for you take to this course so you do not need to pay tuition. Therefore, if you get a letter from NJCU about tuition for this course, you should talk to Ms. Suarez and Dr. Wilkinson about the letter so they can contact NJCU to fix the situation.

What should I do when I receive a midterm grade from NJCU?

NJCU sends midterm grades in the middle of the semester to all students. You will receive a midterm grade that is a Pass or Fail that will be sent to your home address. If you have any other questions about midterm grades, please let Ms. Suarez or Dr. Wilkinson know.

What is the class like?

The class is similar to many English classes you have taken in that you write essays and do homework. What might be different is we spend a long time on going in depth with each paper and giving you time to discover your own writing process as you go through the course.
